The Citizens made a blistering start to the season by winning their opening six matches; three in the league, and three in the MTN8, including a 1-0 victory over Polokwane City in the opening round of the cup.
However, back-to-back defeats in the space of a week away to the two Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, has provided McCarthy with his first real test since he took charge this season.
The visitors from the Limpopo province however will be equally if not more desperate to claim victory on Friday night after having lost their last three matches, which has seen them slipping to only one place above the relegation zone.
Their most recent defeat was a 3-2 reverse to Free State Stars, although coach Bernard Molekwa may at least take some heart from the fact that his team rallied from 3-0 down.
Last season’s corresponding league match brought a 2-0 win for City, although Rise and Shine won the return game 4-2.
Neither team has any suspensions or fresh injury concerns and McCarthy could potentially give Nigerian striker Victor Obina a home debut after he came off the bench in the 1-0 defeat to Pirates in midweek.
