Cape Town City lead Xulu race

Cape Town City are reportedly leading the race to sign South Africa international defender Siyanda Xulu on a free transfer.

The towering central defender was deemed surplus to requirements at Kaizer Chiefs after featuring only 10 times for Amakhosi since signing on a free transfer, upon the expiry of his contract at FC Rostov in 2015.

Benni McCarthy’s Citizens are keen to add the former Mamelodi Sundowns man to their ranks to bolster their defensive options and the new coach earmarked the 25-year-old as the ideal partner for Tsepho Gumede.

“There are too many teams that have shown interest in ‘Magazi’, but Cape Town City are ahead of everyone else and want to sign him. The player is also aware of their interest in him,” a source close Xulu told Goal.

“However, there are unresolved issues with his current club (Chiefs). So, we will see if he would go there.”
