Mamelodi Sundowns moved to within three points of the top of the league table after a comprehensive 6-0 victory over Orlando Pirates at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
- Sundowns 6 Pirates 0
- Zwane opens the scoring
- Tau doubles the lead
- Nascimento scores a third
- Morena adds two more
- Tau scores the sixth
Pirates had a few good moments early in the game, but Sundowns soon found their rhythm and went on to dominate the opening half with two goals.
The Brazilians added their third goal on the hour mark and by then had broken Pirates spirits and went on to net a further three goals. The match was delayed by a crowd invasion for close to an hour before the last eight minutes were completed.
Pirates were unlucky not to go in front in the second minute when Tendai Ndoro played in Gift Motupa, who did well to beat Denis Onyango, only to see the ball coming back off the bar.
Action continued at both ends in what quickly became a thrilling end-to-end encounter in front of a near full house in Pretoria.
Sundowns were becoming increasingly dangerous on attack and were rewarded after 20 minutes when Themba Zwane bundled the ball in from close range at the second attempt after some great work by Khama Billiat.
Anthony Laffor had the chance to add a second goal on 40 minutes, but scuffed his shot after having been teed up on the edge of the box.
But there was no denying a rampant Brazilians side from making it 2-0 just before half time when Billiat brilliantly flicked the ball behind his back to Percy Tau, who was on his toes and obliged with a neat finish for a superbly-worked team move.
