Bloemfontein Celtic season preview

Overview: Bloemfontein Celtic experienced a tumultuous 2016/17 season which saw them led by three different head coaches. Serame Letsoaka was in charge when the campaign got underway, but after only one win in seven games he was replaced by Lehlohonolo Seema.

Seema couldn’t steady the ship after the poor start to the season and only managed three wins from his 13 Premiership games in charge. He gave way to Luc Eymael who failed to improve Phunya Sele Sele’s form, winning only one of their last 10 league games.

Celtic eventually finished their campaign in 12th position, only a single point above the relegation zone. They have since appointed Serbian Veselin Jelusic as their new head coach and will be hoping that he can get the club moving in the right direction again.

Players to watch: Experienced Premiership striker Ndumiso Mabena may be a crucial player for Celtic this season. The 30-year-old has joined from Platinum Stars and has 28 goals and 16 assists to his name in the South African top flight.

New Signings: Celtic have been busy in the transfer window, bolstering their midfield with proven Premiership players in Lucky Baloyi from Kaizer Chiefs and Jacky Motshegwa from Orlando Pirates. In attack, the Free State side have also added strikers Roggert Nyundu and Victor Letsoalo from AmaZulu and Baroka FC respectively.

Vodacom Soccer prediction: There is much uncertainty over whether or not Jelusic will be able to turn things around at Celtic as he has no experience in the Premiership. However, they should have enough quality to consolidate and perhaps challenge for the top eight.
