Gateshead Millennium Bridge
The world’s first and only tilting bridge was constructed for pedestrians and cyclists over the River Tyne in the shape of two intersecting parabolas. It is also known as the “Blinking Eye Bridge” or “Winking Eye Bridge” due to its shape and titling mechanism. It spans 413 feet (126 metres) and the top of the arch stands 164 feet (50 metres) tall from the surface of the river.
