Baxter names Bafana squad for Burkina Faso

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has named his 25-man squad to face Burkina Faso in the nation’s upcoming World Cup qualifying clash on 7 October.

It is a crucial match for Baxter’s charges after Bafana suffered back-to-back defeats to minnows Cape Verde in their previous qualifying games in Group D. Currently Burkina Faso top the standings alongside Cape Verde on six points.

Meanwhile, Senegal are in third on five points while Bafana are bottom on four. The side will also have to replay their game against the Lions of Teranga after FIFA ruled that the side’s 2-1 victory was manipulated by the referee.

It appears at this stage that winning their remaining matches in the qualifiers is the national side’s only hope of qualifying for the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

Baxter’s official 25-man squad to face Burkina Faso in October:

Goalkeepers:

Itumeleng Khune, Wayne Sandilands, Ronwen Williams

Defenders:

Morgan Gould, Erick Mathoho, Reeve Frosler, Thami Mkhize, Sifiso Hlanti, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Tebogo Langerman, Clayton Daniels

Midfielders:

Andile Jali, Hlompho Kekana, Bongani Zungu, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Themba Zwane, Keagan Dolly, Thulani Serero
