Bafana optimistic despite player withdrawals

Bafana Bafana are hopeful of getting a positive result in Saturday’s second leg African Nations Championship qualifier against Zambia, despite major personnel changes.

The Stuart Baxter-coached outfit have seen a host of Premiership players withdraw from the squad as they return to their clubs in time for this weekend’s opening to the 2017/18 league campaign.

Recently, Kaizer Chiefs players Kgotso Moleko, Sibusiso Khumalo and Siya Ngezana joined Bafana during their preparations, with Siphelele Ndlovu also coming on board from a team in the ABC Motsepe League.

Nonetheless, national outfit assistant coach, Thabo Senong, says Bafana can get the right result in Lusaka against Zambia. The first leg was drawn 2-2 last Saturday.

“We believe strongly that we can go to Zambia and compete,” he told SAFA’s official website. “We are not saying it but we all saw what happened in East London, we were almost home and dry.

“But they came back last minute to equalise – so that gives us confidence that we can go there and hurt them in their backyard. We are positive that we will do well.”
