Home Based Super Eagles defender Jamiu Alimi has left Kano Pillars and joined fellow NPFL side Akwa United on a six month deal.
The deal will run up until the end of the current the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) season and came about after Alimi struggled for game-time under Pillars coach Kadiri Ikhana.
The Abdul Maikaba-coached Akwa have an option to sign the 25-year-old on a permanent deal.
Alimi has been part of the home-based Nigerian team and was also one 25 NPFL star players who were selected for a tour of Spain last year.
“It feels absolutely great to have joined Akwa United,” Alimi told Completesportsnigeria.
“I can’t wait to start playing, I just hope I can help them achieve their targets of clinching a continental ticket this season,” he added.
Alimi could be handed his debut for his new club in their away clash against MFM this Sunday.
Akwa are fifth on the league standings and Pillars 11th, although only two points separate the clubs.
