The koki’o, or Hibiscus arnottianus, is endemic to the wet mountain woodlands of Oahu and Moloka’i. The plant itself is a bush, or short tree, that develops somewhere in the range of 15 and 20 feet tall. Its smooth, dim green leaves are 4 to 6 inches in length with splendid red veins and stems. The blossom sprouts are white, four crawls over, and develop at the tip of the branches. White is an intriguing shading for the hibiscus family given that the majority of their blooms are red or orange. The subspecies immaculatus is exceedingly uncommon and develops in a couple of valleys on the Moloka’i island.
